DARBY'S COOLY TO CRONULLA

DARBY'S COOLY TO CRONULLA

On 27 December 2024 I will be challenging myself by running 60km per day from Cooly to Cronulla.

I will be the youngest person to do an ultra multi day marathon whilst raising money for youth mental health support services.

In March 2024 I ran 7 mini marathons in 7 days and this challenge tested my physical endurance but also mental resilience. After the run I knew I wanted to take on another challenge.

This ultra marathon will test me in many ways but knowing I can help others and spread awareness along the way will be a huge motivator. I believe that pushing ones body to the limit is the highest form of self love.

I am stoked to be raising money for Find Ya Feet - an incredible charity who are working hard to empower future generations.

About Darby

Last year, I discovered running, and it completely changed my life. I fell in love with pushing myself to the limit, exploring what we’re truly capable of. Growing up, I was an avid surfer, snowboarder, and skateboarder, always surrounded by a supportive community in these sports. But as I entered my teenage years, life caught up with me. Like many, I lost touch with the things I loved.

It’s easy to forget to make time for what brings us joy as we grow older. Then I saw someone like Blake Johnston from Cronulla break the world record for the longest surf - 40 hours straight. Moments like that remind us that life is still full of incredible possibilities, and they’re within reach for everyone.

Through school, I was always fun and loved a good laugh, but I started struggling to stay motivated. Losing my grandfather to cancer and another family member to mental health rocked me. Something so unfamiliar had hit close to home. For a few years, I felt lost, trying to figure out what truly made me happy. Slowly, I started reconnecting with surfing and fell in love with snowboarding again.

That’s when I started looking for challenges. Watching athletes constantly strive for something bigger inspired me, especially snowboarders. Then Blake’s record attempt happened - a guy from my own backyard doing something extraordinary. I saw it unfold in real time. He was just a regular person, someone I had crossed paths with, but he pushed himself to an incredible achievement. That moment shifted something in me. I wanted to challenge myself in the same way.

Running became my outlet. It was just me and my mind—no equipment, no limits. I became obsessed with squeezing out that little bit more each time. I realized my mind was so much stronger than I had ever imagined; I just needed a way to let it shine.

Blake’s feat led me to people like Nedd Brockmann, everyday individuals doing extraordinary things. That inspired me the most. I haven’t faced any extreme struggles or battled anything extraordinary, but I think that’s the point—it’s about everyday people pushing boundaries and inspiring others.

That realization has led me to where I am today. I hope to be one of those people who inspire others to discover what they’re capable of, just as I have.
